This Friday Rizio (with Mr. McCulloch and Mrs. Leadbetter) took an entire bus full of Painting students to the Lincoln Park Zoo to draw from Life. Life drawing is not just important to learn proportions, but also comes from a LONG tradition of classic artists who drew from life people, animals, and even corpses!
When drawing from a picture the artist is taking 2-dimensional information and representing it on a 2-dimensional surface. However, drawing from life is taking a 3 Dimensional object and using your artistic skills to translate it on to a 2-dimensional surface. Lastly, communing with animals is good for the soul! It is so nice to have access to Chicago, a world class city. A zoo in Chicago with Lake Michigan as our backdrop…what a wonderful way to end the week!
