Ms. Rizio is a member of the IAEA (Illinois Art Education Association. Every year the IAEA has a two day conference. This year the conference was in Bloomington, IL near Illinois State University. The conference had speakers, workshops, hands-on Art demonstrations, and lunches where visiting Artists gave lectures. In the world of Rizio...It was the BEST! She also attended with Mrs. Moss, Ms. Jacobs, Mrs. Pankau, Mrs. Anderson, and Mrs. Bloomberg. Did you know that the Art teachers like to learn about Art even outside of classroom? While I was in Bloomington, there was a special awards breakfast. One of my students, who was Mrs. Brophy's student last year, won a state-wide honor. How exciting it is to watch my students succeed! It really makes my job a true joy. Lastly...check out the BEAUTIFUL cup of coffee I had that the local coffee shop! What a wonderful weekend of Art and Learning. This Friday Rizio (with Mr. McCulloch and Mrs. Leadbetter) took an entire bus full of Painting students to the Lincoln Park Zoo to draw from Life. Life drawing is not just important to learn proportions, but also comes from a LONG tradition of classic artists who drew from life people, animals, and even corpses!
When drawing from a picture the artist is taking 2-dimensional information and representing it on a 2-dimensional surface. However, drawing from life is taking a 3 Dimensional object and using your artistic skills to translate it on to a 2-dimensional surface. Lastly, communing with animals is good for the soul! It is so nice to have access to Chicago, a world class city. A zoo in Chicago with Lake Michigan as our backdrop…what a wonderful way to end the week! |
